It�s much more rewarding than purchasing a pre-fabricated building. cheaper when you buy a shed, you�re paying for someone else�s labor and skills. when you build your own shed, you can save between 40% and 60% since you don�t normally charge yourself. however, you may have to pay your helpers or provide food and beverages.. So looking at sheds ( nope not type2's) anyone built one and did it work out cheaper than buying one off the shelf. or anyone got one they don't want anymore looking at getting 6x4 or 8x4 or 8 x 6 edited by bananabus - 24 may 10 at 21:06. If you buy a shed that is not plastic or some very cheap flakeboard s***-shack, it will definitely cost more than building it yourself. you're paying for labor and manufacturing expenses, after all. i started building a 12 x 12 x 13 shed with a peaked roof 2 years ago..
These sheds are built on "jigs", where wood is tossed in and nailed unbelievably fast, that's how the sheds are cheaper than doing it yourself. but when you do it yourself, (if you build it right) you'll end up with a nice shed, built to just the size you need, with your own decorative tastes and details.. I built a shed a couple of years ago, and i came out way cheaper and better going the diy route than buying. i built a 10x16 shed, 16" oc, grambrel roof, storage loft above, 5/8" t1-11 siding, with cement floor and 8x7 garage door for around $3000.00 sheds of similar design and size at hd were 5,000 to 6,000 bucks.. It's almost always cheaper to build something yourself unless you can find one that is mass produced. then, the economies of scale kick in and you can often (but not always) get it cheaper by buying it outright. in my experience, with things like sheds, you usually make out by building it yourself, though there are always exceptions..
